Gov. Heineman Awards $505,000 in CDBG Funds to Scotts Bluff County for Business Expansion Print

(Lincoln, Neb.) Gov. Dave Heineman today awarded $505,000 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding to Scotts Bluff County to aid KYS Foods, Inc. The project will result in 20 new full-time positions.

The grant will provide $500,000 to help KYS Foods acquire land and help with construction. The remaining $5,000 will be available for administrative costs. The over $4 million project also includes an investment of company funds, bank financing and LB840 funding (Local Option Municipal Economic Development Act) from the City of Scottsbluff.

The California-based company, which produces Asian-style beef and pork jerky and sausages, wanted a location in the Midwest that was more central for distribution to both coasts and Canada, and had access to meat supplies. California operations will be scaled down and inventory built up to allow full transfer of operations to Nebraska by mid-2012.

The Nebraska Department of Economic Development administers the state's CDBG program. Federal funds are made available to Nebraska from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's CDBG program, which assists with the development of businesses and communities throughout the state.
